Item Description
[Appeared on RGJ page 11 with caption:] MEN ARE MOVING MOUNTAINS to make Reno safe from flash floods and runoff on the Peavine Mountain drainage. Construction of a dam on the Peavine drainage 73 feet high and 1450 feet long began officially Tuesday afternoon when Sen. Alan Bible appeared on the scene and turned the first symbolic shovel of earth. To show he could handle larger quantities than mere spadefuls, he then mounted to the cab of a huge earthmover. Among the spectators were Reno Mayor Bud Baker, on the steps, Councilmen, from left, Charles Cowen, Joseph Mastroianni, Dick Dimond and John Marshall. (Gazette Photo)
