[Appeared on RGJ page 20 with caption:] NEW FREEWAY DEDICATED --- A six mile stretch of Highway 40 freeway from Donner State Park east to Boca was formally opened in ceremonies in Truckee Thursday. In picture above, Rep. Harold T. Johnson and State Sen. Ron Cameron are shown on huge roller used to push away the barrier, while on platform in center is N. F. Dolley, president of Truckee-Donner Chamber of Commerce who acted as master of ceremonies. Photo below shows largest of 12 bridges along the freeway stretch. (Gazette photo)

The Nevada State Journal (founded on November 23, 1870) and the Reno Evening Gazette (founded on March 28, 1876) were combined on October 7, 1983 to create the Reno-Gazette Journal (RGJ). The collection contains negatives of photographs taken by Reno Gazette-Journal reporters from 1959-2003 for use in news stories.
