Item Description
John (Jean) Etchemendy, Sr. (1886-1990), born in Arnegi, Behe Nafarroa, emigrated to the Western United States in 1907 to work as a shepherd with his brothers in Nevada. In the early 1920s, he became a partial business owner of the Overland Hotel, eventually co-founding the Overland Holding Company in Gardnerville, NV. He continued to run the Overland till the 1950s, opened other businesses, and continued working with livestock, engaging in the wool-buying business for over half a century.
