Item Description
John Etchemendy, Jr. (1917-1995), son of John Etchemendy, Sr. was born and raised in Gardnerville, NV. In 1935, he began attending the University of Nevada, where he majored in mining engineering and education while minoring in the military Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC). In 1939, he began his long-standing successful military career as he enlisted in the US Army infantry, eventually joining the US Army air corps, being promoted to Major in 1943. In 1946, he was nominated by President Truman and appointed a First Lieutenant in the Regular Army. Shortly after, John served in the Second World War in the Pacific theater and the Korean War. He received various military accolades throughout his career, recognizing his work and achievements, and was promoted to Colonel in 1955.
