[Appeared on RGJ page 3 with caption:] OLD FASHIONED store with customers' stool, high wooden counters and bushel baskets of merchandise ready for delivery is shown more than 50 years ago at the site of the California Market on North Virginia street. Owner and builder, Robert Nelson, is shown behind the counter. Others are Bert Lynn, center and Ross Peterson, Nelson's partner. ; HORSE AND WAGON deliveries were made in Reno 50 years ago by the Reno Cash Store (California Market) with this rig. Seated at the reins next to a folded umbrella attached to the wagon is Bill Koenig, an employee of Robert Nelson for many years.

The Nevada State Journal (founded on November 23, 1870) and the Reno Evening Gazette (founded on March 28, 1876) were combined on October 7, 1983 to create the Reno-Gazette Journal (RGJ). The collection contains negatives of photographs taken by Reno Gazette-Journal reporters from 1959-2003 for use in news stories.
