The Ollie M. Walters Journal recounts everyday activities of Ollie, her husband Jim, daughters Flora and Amy, and sons Jack and Clarence; and events in nearby communities and other parts of the U.S. Also included is a description of their wagon trip from Oregon to Nevada with lists of meals and bread sold to Paiute Indians; Jim's cash accounts; examples of the use of Paiute Indians as laborers on the ranch; references to Jim's participation in the Alaskan gold rush (along with other men in the community); semi-veiled accounts of a legal case which was decided against the Walters (which shamed and embittered Ollie); and mention of the Barrett, Pursel, and Batcheldor families of Mason Valley, Nevada.
