[Photographer's caption:] Pictographs, Courthouse Wash Rock Art, known as Barrier Canyon style of Rock Art. Painted on top of these pictographs are white shields of the prehistoric Anasazi or the historic Ute people. In April of 1980, this ancient rock art was vandalized. The National Park service cleaned the defaced rock art but cannot restore it. Any person who excavates, removes, damages or otherwise alters or defaces archeological or historic resources located on public lands may be fined $250,000 and imprisoned for five years. This site is on the National Register of Historic Places. September/October, 1996.

Collection Description
The Atlas of the New West digital collection consists of photographic materials relating to Goin's contribution of 20 photographs and their accompanying captions to the 1997 book project Atlas of the New West, edited by William Riebsame, and collaborated upon with Patricia Nelson Limerick and Charles Wilkinson, among others. The project highlighted development and change in the West, as well as outdoor recreation and cultural opportunities in the region. These materials are from Series 2, Subseries 1, Sub-subseries 1 of the Peter Goin Papers (2015-33).
