[Appeared on RGJ page 11 with caption:] WELCOME TO NEWCOMERS --- Dr. Charles Armstrong, president of the University of Nevada is shown above extending greetings to freshmen and other new students arriving on the Reno campus for orientation courses. A registration of 750 Freshmen and 250 transfer students is indicated when classes commence next week. Gathering took place this morning in Mackay Stadium where Associated Student President Dan Sobrio, Associated Women's President Pat Reynolds, Dean of Women Elaine Mobley and Dean of Men Sam Basta joined Dr. Armstrong in welcoming the newcomers. The Nevada State Journal (founded on November 23, 1870) and the Reno Evening Gazette (founded on March 28, 1876) were combined on October 7, 1983 to create the Reno-Gazette Journal (RGJ). The collection contains negatives of photographs taken by Reno Gazette-Journal reporters from 1959-2003 for use in news stories.
