Sherman Howard and Al Tabor, University of Nevada, 1948

Tabor was a fullback for the Wolf Pack in 1948. In 1948, Howard and Tabor became the first two African Americans to play in a college football game in Oklahoma when Nevada faced the University of Tulsa. Following Tulsa's threats to cancel the games unless Howard and Tabor were barred from playing, the game was played with the Wolf Pack defeating the Golden Hurricanes 65 to 14. Howard and Tabor accounted for three touchdowns in the rout. Both Howard and Tabor went on to play football professionally.
