Item Description
This collaborative mural by artists Erik Burke and Labrona (from Montreal) resided (has since been painted over) at the Holland Project, "an all-ages arts and music initiative by young people, for young people" (https://www.hollandreno.org/about/). The portion painted by Burke depicts "George W. G. Ferris Jr. who grew up in the Nevada Capital and nearby city of Carson in 1870's...[and] entered notoriety after conceptualizing and engineering the Ferris Wheel for the 1893 World Fair in Chicago" (http://eriktburke.com/Holland-Project). Ferris Jr.'s cranium is exposed and transitions into the wheel he was called "the man with wheels in is head" for inventing (http://eriktburke.com/Holland-Project). The figures that flank Ferris Jr. (painted by Labrona) embody a cubist style of painting. Each of these figures wears an unorthodox hat: a house, and a goose. The background is composed of geometric shapes.
