The Cadet Corps band stands in formation at the bridge over the Orr Ditch with Morrill Hall and the Mechanical Arts Building in the background. The Morrill Act of 1890 stipulated that theoretical and practical military instruction be a part of the regular coursework of every male student. The government invested great amounts of money in higher education institutions. In return, this agreement allowed for a citizens army to be ready in time of need.
