Globular bowl with stem, base and lid. a) Container: close twining, composed of two separate components (bowl, stem, base) woven together as single structure, simple twining (s-twist wefts) is employed on bowl from start to rim and also on base and stem with exception of two rows of three strand twining (s-twist wefts) at 6.5 cm from rim of base, composite rim on both bowl and base, simple twined end selvage with two horizontal elements placed on either side of warp ends attached by a wrapping stitch engaging last two weft rows. b) Lid: close twining, simple twining (s-twist wefts) from start to rim with exception of three strand twining at 4 cm from start, warps at start are constructed to form a knob in center of lid, additional warp and weft elements are attached perpendicularly to bottom of lid at 2.5 cm from rim, a horizontal element stitched to lid and added warp and weft elements (on side, facing center of lid), composite rim on both the horizontal end of lid and on the added elements, simple twined end selvage with two horizontal elements placed on either side of warp ends attached by a wrapping stitch engaging last two weft rows. Bowl design includes six repeating designs of brown quadrangular figures, each containing a zigzag element and bordered on two sides by angled lines; on base are four repeating designs of brown triangles bordered by angled lines; rim of base and bowl are brown. Lid has four repeating designs of quadrangular figures bordered on two sides by angled lines; both rims are brown. Material(s): Redbud, Fern.

This digital collection represents baskets from the University of Nevada, Reno Department of Anthropology's Huber collection. Lulu K. Huber collected nearly 600 baskets made by Native American weavers from roughly 1840 to 1930, including pieces by weavers from Washoe, Paiute, Shoshone, Bannock and Ute peoples in the Great Basin and by weavers from more than 25 Native American peoples elsewhere in the West.
