Photograph of Nevada football player Chris Vargas talking with Nevada football head coach Jeff Horton during a game. Vargas, nicknamed "Magic" by his teammates, was a quarterback for the Wolf Pack from 1990 to 1993. As a senior, Vargas threw for over 4,200 yards and accounted for 35 total touchdowns. Vargas was inducted into the Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004. Horton was the wide receiver coach for the Wolf Pack in 1992 and the head coach in 1993 before accepting the head coaching position at UNLV. This move is referred to as the "Red Defection."
