Out of the Blue

Erik Burke painted this mural for Morgan's Lobster Shack and Fish Market, explaining the lobster in the middle of the mural against a background of blue ocean water that transitions to dark and then a lighter gray above, with nine buoys floating at the top of the mural. The buoys are painted a variety of colors (from left to right): white on a black rope; gold on a natural rope; black, yellow, and robin's-egg-blue striped on a black rope; red on a natural rope; pink on a natural rope; teal, white and red on a natural rope; pink on a natural rope; white and dark purple striped on a black rope; and black, white and red striped on a black rope. The lobster has been painted using several shades of orange and black, but the details of and sheen on the lobster was created using a variety of unexpected colors: sky, cerulean and periwinkle blue; yellow; peach; fern and crocodile green; lavender and iris purple; and red. Burke's moniker (OU38) and website (eriktburke.com) are painted in light blue on the bottom-left corner. The mural is 24 x 44 ft.
