[Appeared on RGJ page 6 with caption:] WELFARE DIRECTOR -- Mrs. Shirley Richards, above, was appointed director of the Washoe County Welfare department by action of the Washoe County Commissioners this week. Mrs. Richards, career worker in welfare has been with the department seven years. She served as interim director in 1958 when Francis Bagley resigned, and had been serving as acting director since March following resignation of Albert Meyers. (Gazette Photo).

The Nevada State Journal (founded on November 23, 1870) and the Reno Evening Gazette (founded on March 28, 1876) were combined on October 7, 1983 to create the Reno-Gazette Journal (RGJ). The collection contains negatives of photographs taken by Reno Gazette-Journal reporters from 1959-2003 for use in news stories.
