Surveying the West

According to artist Erik Burke who painted this 18 x 50 foot mural, "The Hudson Project is a block of mixed-use urban infill development between Center and Lake Street on State Street. The mural graces the east side of the development and is a visualization of all the people and business that inhabited this block dating back to 1890" (http://eriktburke.com/Hudson-Project). The upper portion of the left side of the mural is composed of various vibrant shades of green while the bottom portion depicting a landscape is composed of a vibrant blue, brown/tan, yellow, and more green. The right side of the mural is a wheat pasted silhouette profile of a man conducting a land survey against a large white circle (perhaps representing the moon). This technique creates a life-like, almost 3D depiction of the man, the colors of which tie in with the left portion of the mural.
