Item Description
Raymond Lionel Uhalde (1916-1963), was born in Gardnerville, Nevada to parents John Uhalde, Sr, and Marie Borda Uhalde. Shortly after his birth, the family immigrated back to France in 1920. However, in 1936, Raymond returned to the United States to begin herding sheep with his uncles on the Long Valley Ranch situated on the Nevada-California border. In the 1940s, he served in World War II, fighting in the south Pacific. Upon his return from the war in 1945, he continued to work on his family's farm. In 1946, he married Josephine Etchemendy (1923-2006), daughter of John Etchemendy, Sr. In 1950, his family would sell their ranch and move to Madera, California, where he and his brothers continued to grow their business until his death in 1963.
