Unknown [Go West]

This mural painted by artist Erik Burke embraces the history of Nevada. Similar to his other murals, this work is composed of two main elements: a landscape, and the words "GO WEST." The landscape depicts the variety of mountain ranges in Nevada, suggested by the variety of color (shades of red and blue) in which they are painted. The landscape also portrays a wild mustang, an animal representative of the "wild west" nature of Nevada. On the right side of the mural appears a female figure holding a lantern, as if guiding the horse and throwing into relief the words "GO WEST." The words are painted in a subtle yellow and white that merges them into the landscape. The lines in between the words, which depict birch trees with Basque tree carvings that are found in the state, weave in front of and behind the mustang and run parallel (and in some cases line up directly with) the building behind the mural (the Silver Legacy Hotel & Casino), further connecting the mural to the city.
