[Appeared on RGJ page 15 with caption:] PONY EXPRESS RIDE--First air mail ever to arrive in Virginia City was landed by helicopter today and Earl Guyton is shown above emulating Pony Express ride after he picked up packet of commemorative stamps from 'copter and rushed it to Silver Centennial Stamp celebration on C street. Here he hands packet to Edward (Tex) Gladding, Virginia City postmaster. Standing by to deliver keynote address is George M. Moore, assistant postmaster general.

The Nevada State Journal (founded on November 23, 1870) and the Reno Evening Gazette (founded on March 28, 1876) were combined on October 7, 1983 to create the Reno-Gazette Journal (RGJ). The collection contains negatives of photographs taken by Reno Gazette-Journal reporters from 1959-2003 for use in news stories.
