The 1894 graduating class of the Commercial School of the University of Nevada poses at a graduation ceremony at the McKissick Opera House in Reno with the following people identified: Robert Lewers, head of the Commercial School (seated center), Katharine Riegelhuth (seated second from right), Alice Gertrude Kline (seated at far left of first row) (photographic print, 10 x 12 inches). University President Leroy Brown oversaw the establishment of the Business Department, also known as the Commercial School, focusing on commercial arithmetic, bookkeeping, and commercial law. During this period, students looked to the Principal, Robert Lewers, for guidance and training in this field.
