Item Description
Military cadets stand in formation close to the bridge over the Orr Ditch with the Cadet Corp Band in the foreground and Morrill Hall in the background. The Morrill Act of 1890 stipulated that theoretical and practical military instruction be a part of the regular coursework of every male student. The government invested great amounts of money in higher education institutions. In return, this agreement allowed for a citizen army to be ready in time of need. Arms and accoutrements were provided by the War Department.
