[Appeared on RGJ page 11 with caption:] PONY EXPRESS will ride again June 8 when a commemorative stamp ceremony is held on the Comstock Lode. Soon after a helicopter, delivering Virginia City its first air mail, lands on the Lode, a Pony Express rider will dash up, take a valuable mail pouch and rush it to the center of town opening commemorative stamp ceremonies at a point in C street. Pony rider Earl Guyton of Reno will reenact the drama using an authentic saddle owned by William Harrah of Harrah's Club, Reno. Both Guyton and Harrah are members of the Nevada Pony Express Centennial committee which is planning a celebration of its own in 1960 in memory of the pioneer mail-carrying system.

The Nevada State Journal (founded on November 23, 1870) and the Reno Evening Gazette (founded on March 28, 1876) were combined on October 7, 1983 to create the Reno-Gazette Journal (RGJ). The collection contains negatives of photographs taken by Reno Gazette-Journal reporters from 1959-2003 for use in news stories.
