Item Description
Lincoln Hall is viewed from the southwest where Virginia St. stands today with the Hospital Building to the right and the ROTC Barracks to the left (photographic print, 2 x 3 inches). Lincoln Hall was built as an all-male dormitory in 1896 and maintained its status as the oldest continuously-operating residence hall in the western United States until 2015. The Hospital Building was built in 1902, renamed the Infirmary in 1952, and torn down in 1960 to make way for the Getchell Library. The ROTC Barracks, built in 1917 behind Lincoln Hall, were originally used as military living quarters for WWI cadets and were subsequently used as a containment area for soldiers infected with the Spanish Influenza of 1918. They were active living quarters until they destroyed in a fire in 1942.
