Photograph of the Fernley and Lassen Railway showing two steam locomotives owned by the construction contractor being moved up Main Street in Susanville, California under their own steam; this photo documents the movement of construction equipment for the construction of the railroad through the Susan River Canyon to the west of town; temporary track sections in use; the locomotives both moved onto the section of track closest to their goal, the direction of progress being uncertain in this photo, and then the vacated section of track was moved around and temporarily attached to the "front" of the occupied section; in this fashion, the locomotives move gradually toward their goal, one section at a time; Fernley Branch of the Salt Lake Division of the Southern Pacific; photographic print
