Slayton was an outfielder and a catcher for the Wolf Pack from 1993 to 1996. Over his four seasons at Nevada, Slayton posted a .340 batting average, scored 170 runs, hit 47 doubles and 35 home runs, and drove in 174 runs. Slayton was an All-Big West second team selection in 1995 and an All-Big West Honorable Mention in 1996.
