The moon rises above the Leifson Physics Building (left) and the Chemistry Building (right). The Leifson Physics Building was finished in 1972. It was named for Sigmund Leifson, a professor at the university from 1925 to 1963. Leifson was an integral part of the creation of the Desert Research Institute. The new Chemistry Building was built in 1970 in the center of campus in Barnes Plaza. The building houses a professional/student-run machine shop, a glass shop, and an electronics shop.
