Unknown [Desert, Animal Skull, Blue Jay]; Get Buck, Get Broke

Five panels of this wall were painted by five different artists during the Inaugural Reno Mural Expo in October of 2017. The two here were painted by artists Ahren Hertel and Joe C. Rock. Hertel paints this blue jay in the desert perched atop a cow skull with a stalk of wheat clasped in its beak. Smoke billows behind the bird from a fire burning off in the distance. The plumage on the bird's head and part of the wheat stalk extend past the arched boundary of the mural and into the natural wall upon which the mural is painted; Rock depicts a cowboy riding a wild mustang into the sunset, representative of the Reno Rodeo. A halo of barbed wire floats above the cowboy's hat and a locomotive disguises itself in the body of the mustang. The background is painted bright blue with a beige banner swirling across it that reads "Get Buck Get Broke." Objects, such as grape bundles, crowns (a common object in Rock's murals), hearts and cherries speckle the mural's background.
