Item Description
This painted-wall sign welcomes those driving past it to Dickerson Road, an area west of downtown Reno, running parallel to the Truckee River, that is referred to as "'Reno’s Industrial Arts District,' combining art, commercial and residential properties, and a nature preserve." Using bright and vibrant colors, Eric (Erik) Burke and Buz Rhodes painted large block letters, with orange and red shadows behind them, to spell out "Dickerson," with imagery and scenes appearing in each letter that signify and represent the nature of the district. The "D" features an angle grinder cutting metal; a paint brush stands in for the "I"; the "C" features the profile of half of a sandwich; the "K" displays a smith forging a piece of metal; the "E" shows someone wearing tan pants and brown boots laying under the hood of a vehicle; the "R" features a woman's body in profile from her lower torso to the top of her knees, wearing a black and white striped undergarment, with red rose vines over the entire image; the "S" contains water with green and purple lily pads floating on top; the "O" is made up of a figure wearing tan garments throwing on a yellow pottery wheel; and the "N" includes a variety of multicolored metal bottle caps. The words "Welcome to" and "Live, Work, Eat, Play" appear in red and blue on a white banner painted on the left side of the mural. The artists' names,"Eric Burke and Buz Rhodes," appear in red and blue on a white banner painted in the upper far-right corner of the mural.
