University Entrance Gates, 1903

This photo shows the University Entrance Gates with wrought iron gates and stone pillar lampposts in the foreground and Hatch Hall and Morrill Hall seen in the background. The caption on image reads, "Entrance to University of Nevada - Reno Nev." (postcard, 3.5 x 5.5 inches). The campus entrance gates are located at the southern end of campus, where Center Street crosses Ninth Street and then turns into a campus driveway. The original gates were built as gifts by early university graduating classes, and their year marks of '98' and '01' can still be seen on the original stone pillars. Today, the entrance is much wider than its original version, and the original stone walls, wrought iron gates, and light posts (as seen here) are gone.
