University Entrance Gates, 1903

Wrought iron gates and stone walls are at the campus entrance with the flag pole in the center and Morrill Hall, Stewart Hall, and Hatch Hall in the background (from right to left). The University Entrance Gates are located at the southern end of campus, where Center Street crosses Ninth Street and then turns into a campus driveway. The original gates were built as gifts by early university graduating classes, and their year marks of '98' and '01' can still be seen on the original stone pillars. Today, the entrance is much wider than its original version, and the original stone walls, wrought iron gates, and light posts (as seen here) are gone.
