A pair of maceros (also known as beadles or sergeants-at-arms) taken during the festival of San Fermin (Sanfermines, Sanferminak), a martyr and one of the co-patrons of Pamplona, Navarre (Navarra), Spain. Maceros and the maces they carry with them are a traditional symbol of power and authority hearkening back to Navarre's time as an autonomous kingdom. In modern and historical times, they headed processions of government or religious officials at important events. The traditional dress of the maceros is composed of a talbard (dalmatic tunic) embroidered with the arms of the institution or area they represent, a velvet hat with a feather, and (of course) a mace. The red fringe is mixed with gold thread. The [unknown] and shoes are made of brown suede. On the red hats, white feathers and emerald brooches.
