Item Description
Photograph of Western Shoshoni wickiup in Ruby Valley; Identification by Donald R. Tuohy in Nevada Historical Society Quarterly, vol. XXVII, number 2, p. 110; From: Final Report. Relief Homeless Indians. Nevada. Lorenzo D. Creel. Special Supervisor. June 30, 1917; Photographic Exhibit No. 1, (82-1/II/2) June 10, 1917; Horsekillers camp Ruby Valley about 12 miles south of the Timoke band on Overland Creek; Ruby Lake in the distance; There are 4 or 5 homesteads at this point; The land lies well and the soil is excellent; These Indians have about 15 acres under cultivation in alfalfa and a little grain; This is surrounded by a substantial wire fence; They have also started to fence some of their homesteads with posts. I saw two rolls of wire only which they had undoubtedly purchased. These Indians are quite industrious apparently, but have so far been unable to build any permanent houses with the exception of a small cabin underway, which will be shown in another view
