Item Description
The eastern wall of the Circus Circus Reno contains seven 20 x 14 ft. panels, each painted by a different artist during the 2017 24-Hour Mural Marathon competition. From left to right: Anthony Ortega won the competition with a psychedelic mural composition that combines ancient Mesoamerican art with futuristic elements. This mural is painted with vibrant shades of blue, red, green, orange, yellow, pink, and purple, portraying a vivid ancient Mesoamerican god-like figure that emerges from the stellar depths of the galaxy behind it and begins it descent into the green forest that surrounds the outer edges of the mural; Kendel Leslie painted a colorful mural with a blue humpback whale as the primary subject. The whale is painted in several shades of blue and purple. The background is composed of different shapes and formed in light pink, magenta, lime green, pastel yellow and purple among a black background with white stars, alluding to a galaxy-like ocean; Artist Raphael Blanco's mural depicts a child taking a photograph using a vintage camera. Although the child is painted predominantly with black, Blanco also uses the colors of the background (blue and purple) for the child's skin color and to create highlights in his/her hair. The background is composed of stripes in an array of shades of blue and purple. There are also translucent white splashes "splattered" around the child; Seth McCorkle depicted a boy with a pointed hat looking ahead. Behind, there is a landscape scene composed of brown hills and bright blue skies; Hannah Sproul painted a turquoise skeleton with a burning cigarette clenched in its teeth against a periwinkle blue background. Flowers in an array of sizes and colors ( blue, yellow, pink, and white) emerge from the bottom of the mural, surrounding the skeleton. Large strips of paint (light pink, yellow, magenta, sky blue, and pastel orange) drip down from the top of the mural; Stephane Cellier depicted a man with a a sword. He stands among mist with a grey background behind; Marv Riley depicted the head of a ferocious tiger with an ornate frame surrounding it over a maroon background.
