Frank Hawkins, Oakland Raiders, 1982

Photograph of Oakland Raiders football player Frank Hawkins carrying the ball during a game in 1982. Hawkins was a running back for the Raiders from 1981 to 1987. Over his seven seasons with the Raiders, Hawkins rushed for 1,600 yards, scored 18 touchdowns, and won a Super Bowl (XVIII). Hawkins was selected by the Raiders in the 10th round of the 1981 NFL Draft. Prior to playing in the NFL, Hawkins was a running back at Nevada from 1977 to 1980. Over his four seasons at Nevada, Hawkins rushed for over 5,300 yards, scored 39 touchdowns, and totaled 21 games with over 100 rushing yards. During the game against San Francisco State University in 1978, Hawkins set Nevada’s all-time single game rushing record with 293 yards rushing. Hawkins was a Division I-AA All-American three times, an All-Big Sky first team selection in 1979 and in 1980, and the Big Sky Conference MVP in 1980. Hawkins was the Division I-AA leader in rushing yards in 1979 and in 1980. Hawkins was inducted into the Nevada Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992 and the College Football Hall of Fame in 1997.
