Item Description
The U.S. Bureau of Mines building is seen here from the south (photographic print, 8.5 x 10.75 inches). The U.S. Bureau of Mines Rare and Precious Metals Experiment Station was finished in 1954. Originally operated under the auspices of the U.S. government, the Bureau of Mines became part of the university in 1996-97 and was renamed the Applied Research Facility. Today the building houses the Center for Environmental Sciences and Engineering, the Great Basin Institute, the Brain Computation Laboratory, the Biomedical Engineering Program, Microbiology, and Nevada Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education.
