This Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Lawlor Events Center shows the following people: Athletic Director Dick Trachok, Board of Regents President Bob Cashell, former Nevada Governor Mike O'Callahan, Governor Robert List, Mrs. Jake Lawlor (Erma), University President Joe Crowley, Regent John Tom Ross, State Legislator Bob Barengo, and Chancellor Robert Bersi. The Lawlor Events Center opened in 1983. It holds 11,200 seats for Wolf Pack men’s and women’s basketball sports fans, while additionally hosting other events such as concerts and Winter Commencement. The building is named in honor of Glenn "Jake" Lawlor, an alumni of the university who returned in 1942 to coach multiple sports and became Director of Athletics in 1959.
