Decorative porcupine quill basket: close twining, diagonal twining (z-twist wefts) from start to 1.7 cm, simple twining (z-twist wefts) from 1.7 to 3.5 cm, three strand twining (z-twist wefts) from 3.5 to 4 cm, simple twining (z-twist wefts) from 4 to 4.4 cm, three strand twining (z-twist wefts) from 4.4 to 6 cm, simple twining (z-twist wefts) from 6 cm from start to .5 cm from rim, three strand twining (z-twist wefts) from .5 cm from rim to rim. Rim: warps are twisted together in pairs, folded at a 180-degree angle and reinserted into adjacent warp rows. Design: three diagonal designs of offset dark brown quadrangular shapes, each containing a yellow square in right side, form a whirlwind pattern around wall. Material(s): Porcupine Quill.

Collection Description
This digital collection represents baskets from the University of Nevada, Reno Department of Anthropology's Huber collection. Lulu K. Huber collected nearly 600 baskets made by Native American weavers from roughly 1840 to 1930, including pieces by weavers from Washoe, Paiute, Shoshone, Bannock and Ute peoples in the Great Basin and by weavers from more than 25 Native American peoples elsewhere in the West.
