Miss Elizabeth Babcock is seen here in the foreground and Miss Hannah K. Clapp in the back. Hannah Clapp was the first faculty member hired at the university and later became the first librarian. Elizabeth Babcock was also a faculty member early in the university's beginnings. Clapp and Babcock were friends who had started the first Kindergarten in Nevada in Carson City before moving to Reno to become university faculty. They were roommates for most of their time at the university.
