This plaque was placed in the Mackay Science Building wall. It reads, "To provide education for the future generations in those sciences which are fundamental to mining. This building is presented to the University of Nevada by Clarence H. Mackay in loving memory of his father John W. Mackay, a pioneer in the development of this state. Dedicated October 24, 1930." The Mackay Science Building was built in 1930 as a space to house the schools of Physics and Chemistry. Funded by university donor Clarence Mackay and designed by renowned Reno architect Frederick DeLongchamps, Mackay Science was praised as one of the most modern places to teach science in the western United States. Today the building houses the Department of Geography.
