Early To Rise

This mural was painted by artist Erik Burke on a cinderblock trash-can enclosure located behind the Nevada Museum of Art (NMA) to coincide with the Tilted Basin Exhibition that ran at the NMA from August through October of 2016. The entire enclose was painted in a vibrant lime green and the male and female figures represented horizontally on the left side, presumably a father and daughter dancing, are painted on top of the lime-green background using darker shades of green and black paint. Dark-green paint was used to create a cat-like design on the portion of the girl's dress that covers her arms, shoulders and upper back, and to create a simple floral pattern on the remaining (lower) portion of the dress. A bit a of white paint was used to create the metal appearance of the man's wedding band and to paint Burke's moniker (OU37) in the upper-left corner. According to the NMA website, the Tilted Basin Exhibition "bridges the divide between Northern and Southern Nevada communities and provides a wide-ranging overview and understanding of the most accomplished work being created by more than thirty artists living and working in Nevada today." This mural was replaced during the 2017 Reno Mural Expo by one painted by artist Dr. Chip Thompson (that mural can be found in this archive under "Unknown [We Are Powerful]).
