Hat

Hat: rigid, close twining, three strand twining (s-twist wefts) from start to 1.3 cm, simple twining (s-twist wefts) from 1.3 cm to rim with exception of two single rows of three strand twining (s-twist wefts) at 4 cm from start and at 1 cm from rim. Rim: simple twined and selvage with warps truncated after final weft course. Design: light brown center extending from start to 1.3 cm; concentric black line at 1.3 cm from start; three designs, each of two offset rectangular shapes constructed of black vertical lines encircle center at 1.7 to 3.2 cm from start; brown band followed by a black band at 4 to 4.8 cm from start; decorating wall repeating patterns, each composed of a triangle outlined on two sides of five triangles; black band at 1.6 cm from rim; on remaining 1 cm of wall to rim are three evenly spaced designs, each composed of a black rhomb between two black triangles; rim is brown. Additional tags: adhesive tape tag (1 x 1.3 cm) with "107" in black ink stuck in interior. Condition: dirty, 2.5 cm break in wall 4.5 cm from rim, 5.5 cm horizontal break 7.4 cm from rim, 3.5 cm horizontal break 2.3 cm from rim, black strands of hair between stitches in several places throughout basket.
