Globular storage bowl: close twining, three strand twining (s-twist wefts) from start to 4.5 cm, simple twining (s-twist wefts) from 4.5 cm from start to .8 cm from rim with exception of three rows of three strand twining (s-twist wefts) at 5.5 cm, two rows of three strand twining (s-twist wefts) at rim. Rim: three strand twined end selvage with warps truncated after final weft row. Design: light brown extending 7 cm from start, remainder of piece is yellow, large concentric zigzag around wall composed of two parallel rows of offset brown triangles, each triangle contains a yellow triangle in center, on wall 3.5 cm from rim are three designs of three vertical lines connected on top by a horizontal line, brown band around rim. Additional tags: paper tag (8.5 x 2.5 cm) attached to rim with "Pitt Rimi Indians" written on it with black ink. Condition: very dirty, white substance stuck on wall 10 cm from rim, small hole to the right 11 cm from rim, several small holes in bottom, insect webbing in interior, salt exudates on redbud material, stitches missing through piece, especially in one area in wall at 13 to 10 cm from rim, warp ends are broken in several places around rim. Collection Description
This digital collection represents baskets from the University of Nevada, Reno Department of Anthropology's Huber collection. Lulu K. Huber collected nearly 600 baskets made by Native American weavers from roughly 1840 to 1930, including pieces by weavers from Washoe, Paiute, Shoshone, Bannock and Ute peoples in the Great Basin and by weavers from more than 25 Native American peoples elsewhere in the West.
